Privacy Policy

Music Practice Coach is designed to work entirely on your device. We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal information.

What stays on your device

The app stores the following on your device only:

Nothing in the list above leaves your device unless you explicitly choose to share it (for example, by exporting a practice package as a zip file and sending it via Mail, Messages, AirDrop, iCloud Drive, or another app of your choice).

Web app storage

The web version at music-practice-coach.com keeps your library in one of two places, and never accesses anything outside it:

Package ZIP imports are unpacked only into the app's known folders (plans, audio, PDFs, video) and only for supported file types. As on the other platforms, nothing is uploaded to us; files leave your device only when you export or share them.

What we collect

Nothing.

We have no servers, no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising frameworks, and no telemetry of any kind. The app does not transmit information about you, your device, your usage, or your content to us or to any third party for our benefit.

Microphone and camera

Photo library

On iPhone and iPad you can add a video to a practice plan by choosing one from your photo library. The app uses Apple's standard photo picker, which runs outside the app: the app never gets access to your library as a whole, only to the single video you pick. That video is copied into the practice package on your device. Nothing else in your library is read, and the copy is not transmitted anywhere.

YouTube content

Some practice plans may reference YouTube videos as a step type. When you run such a step, the YouTube video is loaded and played inside the app using YouTube's official IFrame API. YouTube may collect data about that playback session according to YouTube's own privacy practices, which are outside our control.

YouTube's privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy

If you do not want any data shared with YouTube, simply do not use YouTube-based plan steps. All other features of the app work without any network connection.

Catalogs published by teachers

The app can install ready-made practice packages from a catalog published on GitHub. If you leave the “Catalog account” field alone you see our own sample catalog; if a teacher gives you their GitHub username, you can browse theirs instead.

Fetching a catalog means your device makes an ordinary web request to GitHub, so GitHub sees the request in the way any website sees a visitor — including your IP address — under its own privacy practices. No account is involved and nothing identifying you is sent by us. If you never open Catalog Plans, no such request is ever made.

If you publish plans yourself

Teachers who publish their own catalog give the app a GitHub access token so it can upload on their behalf. That token is stored on your own device — in the system Keychain on Mac, iPhone and iPad, and in your browser's local storage in the web app — and is sent only to GitHub, only when you publish. It is never sent to us, and we could not read it if we wanted to. Deleting the token in the app, or revoking it on GitHub, ends that access immediately.

This applies only if you set up publishing. Nothing here happens for someone who simply practises.

Children

The app does not collect personal information from anyone, including users under 13.

Backups

Your iPhone or iPad's normal backup behavior (iCloud Backup or local backup via Finder) may include the app's data. We have configured the app to exclude large media files (audio and video) from iCloud backups to keep your iCloud storage usage low, but plan files, session logs, and PDFs are included in your device's normal backups. This data is encrypted by iOS as part of your overall backup and is not accessible to us.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. Because the app collects no data, changes will typically only happen to clarify language or document new features. The app does not push update notifications about policy changes.
